Equipment or mediaFlorida planning rangeWhat can shorten useful life
Clack control valveOften 10–15 yearsA practical planning range—not a warranty. A proper outdoor valve cover, dry electrical connections and timely service matter. Seals, spacers, piston, injector, motor or power supply may need attention sooner.
Fiberglass mineral tankOften 15–20 yearsInspect sooner when installed outdoors. Direct sun, salt air, impact, poor support, storm exposure or visible cracking can shorten useful life.
Brine tank and safety floatOften 10–15 yearsFlorida heat and sun can make exposed plastic brittle. Salt bridging, buildup, float wear and leaks require service before the tank itself reaches the end of its useful life.
Catalytic carbonAbout 3–5 yearsCommon planning range for South Florida municipal water using chloramines. Replace according to performance and water demand.
Coconut-shell activated carbonAbout 4–6 yearsCommon planning range when used appropriately for free-chlorine taste and odor reduction.
Softening resinAbout 7–10 yearsA reasonable range when correctly sized, regenerated and protected from oxidants. Continuous disinfectant exposure or neglect can shorten it.
Sediment prefilterAbout 3–6 monthsReplace sooner when loading or pressure drop shows that the cartridge is spent.
Carbon-block prefilterAbout 6–12 monthsActual life depends on disinfectant concentration, flow and total household use.
RO prefilters and postfilterAbout 6–12 monthsAnnual service is the cleanest baseline; heavier loading may require earlier replacement.
RO membraneAbout 2–5 yearsFeed-water quality, pressure, pretreatment and timely filter service determine useful life.
Warranty length and expected service life are not the same. Equipment may remain serviceable beyond its warranty, while replaceable parts can wear sooner. Performance should be evaluated before rebedding or replacement; a calendar estimate alone does not prove that media is exhausted—or that it is still performing.
